The California School Dashboard provides parents and educators with meaningful information on school and district progress so they can participate in decisions to improve student learning. The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) is California’s statewide assessment system designed to measure how well students are mastering the state’s academic standards and to help prepare them for success in college and future careers. Students in grades 3–8 and 11 participate in English language arts and mathematics assessments, while students in grades 5, 8, and once in high school take the California Science Test (CAST). CAASPP results provide families and teachers with valuable information about a student’s strengths and areas for growth, helping guide classroom instruction and support learning at home. Families can access additional resources, sample test questions, and easy-to-understand score report information through the Starting Smarter website to better understand their child’s results and partner with teachers to support continued academic success. https://caaspp-elpac.ets.org/caaspp/Default
The English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC) measure how well students whose primary language is not English are progressing toward English proficiency. The ELPAC assesses students' skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing and helps schools identify the language supports students need to succeed in the classroom. Students who are newly enrolled in California schools and whose home language survey indicates a language other than English take the Initial ELPAC to determine eligibility for English learner services. Students identified as English learners then take the Summative ELPAC each spring to measure their annual progress toward becoming proficient in English. The results help teachers tailor instruction, inform families about their child's language development, and determine when students are ready to be reclassified as fluent English proficient. https://caaspp-elpac.ets.org/caaspp/Default
